NC State upsets the red hot Tar Heels of UNC

You may be surprised to know that the Wolfpack of NC State entered Friday’s contest against rival North Carolina with an RPI of 54 given their horrible play so far in the ACC.   The good news for NC State is that they finally got a quality win against an ACC opponent with a series-opening 5-4 win over the red-hot Tar Heels. N.C. State starting pitcher Cory Mazzoni struck out seven and allowed just four runs on four hits in seven innings, while reliever Chris Overman was huge, striking out three in 1 2/3 shutout innings to end the game.  Andrew Ciencin drove in the game winning run in the 5th.
